scouting report Neel
02/08/18 Indian Accent opened in Delhi, then opened a second location in New York and it's third in London at the end of next year. I had planned to go to the one in NYC later this year but a business trip to Europe gave me a chance to try the London restaurant out first, and I'm really glad I did. It may be the best fine dining Indian restaurant in London and it will reset your expectations of what Indian food can be. This appetizer of Kashmiri morels was the highlight of the meal. I've had morels before, but these from the Kashmir region of India just intensified everything that's good about morels- the heart, gamey flavor and its inherent meaty texture with just a bit of a bite. The morels were stuffed with more chopped morels and dusted with a walnut powder, a unique combo which brought out some of the nutty notes in the mushrooms. The morel sauce added the right amount of creaminess and the parmesan wafer, with its mild acidity and fruity flavor, just complemented the walnut and added another mini-umami bomb to the dish. This was the first course I had of three at the restaurant, and halfway through I debated asking the waiter if I could repeat it. This is easily a franchise dish and could be a HOFer in a lean voting year. I should add that everything else I tried at Indian Accent was at minimum at an All-Star level. Dinner was at a price level of 5 Spaldings, but lunch is a better value at 3 Spaldings.
