It's hard to do this place justice. Harlow's is a staple of my hometown. If you haven't gone in at 6am after an all-nighter, then you can't call yourself a true local. It's like a right of passage. I grew up going here. Ordering a chocolate iced donut, grabbing a yoohoo, and listening to the old men (including my grandpa) solve the problems of the world.
They have the best chocolate iced donut in the entire world. I don't know why, but I have yet to find one that even compares. It's slightly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and with a ganache-like chocolate topping it off. It's firm enough to make you feel like you're actually eating something, which a lot of donuts lack. The most reliable donut I've ever had. It never disappoints.
They recently started doing a donut of the month (they never did ANYTHING out of the ordinary during my adolescence), and they are usually a hit and very rarely a miss. This month's was maple bacon, and it was perfect. Tons of flavorful and crispy bacon all over a sweet maple coating on they're already flawless donut. Sweet, salty, and fluffy. It was a fantastic way to start a morning at a Bigtime local spot.
