03/14/18 Pork Curry with Potatoes at Burma Superstar in San Francisco, CA. I love Asian food, so I’m always up for a good curry dish, especially if it’s Burmese, which is my ethnicity. Burmese food is a cross between Thai, Chinese, and Indian food, and the curry, when done right, has a unique, distinct, and delicious flavor. Burma Superstar’s version is excellent, and one of the best you’ll find outside of taking a 24 hour flight to Burma (also called Myanmar). The braised pork was tender and lean without much fat. To tenderize the pork, they marinate it overnight with yogurt. The curry itself, marinated with pickled mangoes, had terrific flavor with just the right amount of spice to accommodate most curry lovers (the spice level was “medium”). Unlike some curry dishes which can be too “heavy” from being loaded with starch, the consistency of the curry gravy was perfect - not too thick and not too thin or watery. The potatoes in the curry were also cooked just right - not too hard and not too soft. Burma Superstar is a highly acclaimed restaurant with three locations in the Bay Area (SF, Oakland, and Alameda) as well as several other affiliated restaurants (Burma Love, B-Star, and Eats). Don’t miss their award winning Tea Leaf Salad, which has been featured on the Food Network. I also love their Rainbow Salad, Pumpkin Shrimp, Catfish Chowder, and Chili Lamb.
