Souvla is a Greek restaurant with three locations in San Francisco. The first one opened in 2014 and the most recent one in 2017. Today I visited the newest location found on Valencia Street in the heart of the mission district. I have a newfound affection for Greek eats and Greek culture ever since I discovered my wife comes from Greek roots. I arrived at this place at about 8:30 pm on a Monday evening to find the place packed and with a small line out the door. The line moved quickly and I was fortunately sitting down and eating within 15 minutes. The menu is simple but the food fantastic. They have 4 main entrees and you can order each of them as a sandwich (pita bread) or as a salad. I went with the vegetarian salad option today and it did not disappoint. Big chunks of warm sweet potato in a romaine / kale leaf base with chopped kalamata olives, toasted walnuts, pickled red onions, pea shoots, mizithra cheese, and glazed with garlic yogurt. Tasty and filling! Before I left I sampled their frozen greek yogurt with baklava crumbles in a honey syrup. It was the perfect compliment to my meal!
