Milk Bar at The Wharf is the latest location for this popular dessert, cake and cookie franchise that is ever growing. This was my first try of their famous soft serve and it was highly recommended by everyone I’ve talked to. And myself not known as a dessert person, I was skeptical at first. But once I had my first bite, the whole soft serve was mine and mine alone. The Cereal Milk Soft Serve ($8) brings back childhood memories of drinking the leftover milk in the bowl after finishing up the cornflakes. It has the perfect smooth, rich and creamy consistency that is not overly sweet (which is what I prefer). The mellowed sweetness comes from using brown sugar instead of regular and mixing in a little salt gives it the right balance that makes your mouth water with each bite. To my soft serve I also decided to add on the “Crunch” and fudge, which was the best idea ever. The crunch is similar to cornflake cereal but has a light saltiness and deeper “crunch factor” from being in a crumble form instead of thin cereal. The crumbles hold up really well at the soft serve melts so you continue to get a textual bite each time. The fudge was an added sweetener and provided some chocolate notes to the creamy milk base. Overall, this simple soft serve was probably one of the better desserts I’ve had in years and I definitely will not hesitate to scoop one up whenever there’s a chance.
