When I'm in LA for work I usually have to spend a lot of time around LA Live where aren't a ton of options for a quick, no frills lunch between meetings. However, the last time I was out there, a colleague and I stumbled upon Fernando's, which is located inside of a car wash, just across Olympic from LA Live. This place was awesome and totally unexpected! It's a simple operation with a couple guys on the grill and a couple on the register, just slinging tacos, burritos, and other classic options. There was a longish line, but it moved quickly and I went with standard carnitas and carne asada tacos. They were both solid, though the carne asada stood out. The meat was super tender (my biggest gripe with carne asada tacos is that sometimes the meat is too chewy - but not here!), corn tortillas were authentic, and onions and cilantro were fresh. I also loved the green salsa at their little salsa bar. This hole-in-the-wall was a very pleasant surprise and is a fun and quick lunch option for a part of town that doesn't have many.
