New World Bistro is a great restaurant in Albany that seasonally adjusts their menu. They draw inspiration from many different cuisines and often have flavor combinations that can't be found anywhere else in the area. I've never had real cuban food, so I thought I'd try it out here. It didn't disappoint. The sauce consisted of sofrito (a sauce base used in Latin American cooking), tomato, olives, and wine. It was a strange flavor to me, but it really worked. The multiple sides (Black beans, plantain, brown rice, greens, and yams) really complemented the main dish, they had a less dominant flavor that fit well with the sauce and provided some nice texture. Most important of all for me, the portion was the right size for someone like me who doesn't like to leave dinner hungry. Too often I go to a good restaurant, really enjoy the food, and feel like I need to get some pizza afterwards because I'm still hungry. The owner has been on Chopped Champions on food network and the rest of his menu is great. I strongly encourage giving this place a try if you're in the area, especially for Sunday brunch.
