Langostinos al Pil Pil at Miro Spanish Grille in Charlotte, NC. I hadn’t heard of this place before, but one of the food scouts (JP82) on Bigtime Bites submitted a scouting report on a dish there, so I was excited to try it. The term “al Pil Pil” refers to Spanish dishes that are sautéed primarily in olive oil and garlic. Miro’s version, comprised of jumbo prawns sautéed in olive oil, garlic, paprika, and a trace of chili peppers, is simple, yet packed with terrific flavors. The chili peppers added a little kick, but I wouldn’t characterize it as very spicy. While olive oil was a primary ingredient, the dish wasn’t heavy at all, and was a great start to our meal. I’ve been to Miro several times now, and have ordered this dish each time. They have a diverse menu with meat, seafood, and vegetarian options as well as pasta. Open for both lunch and dinner with super friendly service, Miro is located in South Charlotte, and definitely worth the drive from Uptown and beyond. Open late (11 p.m.) on Friday and Saturday nights. I also love their Mejillones Diablo con Chorizo, which is Mussels with Chorizo and Spicy Tomato Sauce.
