FIG has a reputation for being one of the best restaurants in the South and is known for new Southern cooking and a great wine program (just won a James Beard). I found that its excellence definitely extends to dessert. This is one of the best desserts I have had in recent memory. It is so simple, yet so well done. It is a seemingly basic custard dish, but it is so smooth, and has a deep, just-right sweetness. The butterscotch flavor that is packed in this little bowl will makes any other butterscotch I've had in the past seem watered down. A dollop of airy whipped cream helps lighten up the slightly salty and dense butterscotch custard. The cookies on the side have an ideal chewiness to them and are perfect for scooping up the contents of this yummy little bowl. Make sure to save room for this at FIG!
