Banoffee at Hofmann in Barcelona, Spain. Banoffee is a dessert of British origin that has many variations, but typically is comprised of a filling consisting of bananas and toffee (hence the name). I was given a heads up by my friend Jose that Hofmann has amazing desserts, as they own a bakery in addition to their two restaurants. Hofmann’s version of Banoffee lived up to the billing, and was a great way to finish off a terrific meal. Consisting of a chocolate exterior, the inside was filled with salted caramel cream toffee, caramelized bananas, pecans, and roasted banana ice cream. With a futuristic chocolate casing unlike any dessert I had seen before, the taste of the dish matched the beauty of presentation. The blend of flavors was exquisite - sweet, salty, and crunchy all at the same time - sort of like a chocolate sundae colliding with a banana cream pie. Hofmann is a highly acclaimed restaurant with a second location (Taverna Hofmann) that serves primarily tapas. In addition to the restaurants and bakery, they also have a culinary school. Hofmann has a wide variety of dishes with outstanding service. I also loved their Sticky Rice with Smoked Duck and their National Lobster Dish.
