05/24/18 Prosperity Dumpling used to be my favorite dumpling place in the country. When it shut down a few years ago, I was absolutely devastated. On my last trip to NYC, I was delighted to find my favorite place reincarnated, this time as “East Dumpling.” Same bat time, same bat channel, just a different name out front. This place is nestled in Chinatown, a little bit off the main drag, but still very accessible. They don’t have a website (shocker), but if you want to find this place, you’ll find it. I recommend doing so the next time you’re in NYC if you’re looking for some BIGTIME dumplings. The menu is tiny, but there’s really only one thing you need to order...the pork dumplings. They are large, cooked to perfection (with just the right amount of crunch on the outside, while remaining incredibly juicy on the inside), and you can get 10 (two-bite size) of these puppies for $3!!! This place is legit. It’s a mom-and-pop operation. The lady is in the front hand-filling and rolling the dumplings, while the guy is in the back cooking them. There’s room for about six people in the entire space in front of the register and there are two chairs at the “counter,” so unless you time it right, get these things to go and enjoy them elsewhere. If you ever find better dumplings in NYC, you’ll have to let me know. I’d put these bigtime bites up against anything.
