When my two brothers and I were all in New York at the same time for work, had a free evening, and were looking for a fun spot for dinner, Rich's recent review of Gramercy Tavern popped into my head. We went and sat in the casual bar area and it was everything it's cracked up to be. Exceptional service, vast drink selection, lively atmosphere, and special food. The burger is simultaneously no frills and high end. It appears really straightforward, with a sesame seed bun, burger patty, cheese, and bacon, but you could taste the quality in every element. The buns are baked in house. The patty is a custom grind of quality beef that is grilled over a wood fire that imparts a great char and smokiness and seals in the juiciness. The cheese is a perfectly melted cheddar. The bacon is salty and fatty without being soggy. One of the best burgers I've had in recent memory. We also got mac n cheese, asparagus, and the house bread, which were all great. One brother ordered the roasted chicken which he enjoyed as well. This place definitely lives up to the considerable hype!
