06/27/18 Bardo is a new small plates place a bit off the beaten path in South End in Charlotte and is one of the "coolest" places I've been in the city. You could pick it up and drop it in Chicago or New York or DC and it would fit right in, in terms of both atmosphere and menu. My wife and I shared a few small plates, and this crudo was our favorite. The kampachi was meaty, tender, fatty, and had a clean flavor. A salty black garlic shoyu sauce with some chilis was drizzled on top to add that umami. Everything was complemented really well by little ribbons of melon that brightened up and balanced the dish. Definitely one of the more distinctive plates of food we've had in Charlotte. Also, my wife got the "Balancing Act" cocktail and I had a sip or two and, while I'm more of a beer guy, I have to say it was also awesome. We had a great experience at Bardo and will definitely be back.
