BBQ Pork Hum Bao At Mee Sum Pastry in Seattle, WA. Whenever I’m in my hometown of Seattle to visit my family, I always make multiple stops at Pike Place Market. One of my must-have, go-to items while at Pike Place is the BBQ Pork Hum Bao at Mee Sum Pastry. Hum Bao (also spelled Hom Bow) is a Chinese pastry filled with various meats, and can typically be found at Chinese bakeries or in dim sum carts at authentic Chinese restaurants. Baked fresh on-site throughout the day, you can watch the Mee Sum staff marinate and season the meat, prepare and stuff the bread, then take the Hum Bao in and out of the ovens. The bread is warm and soft as can be and has a slight glaze on top. The bbq pork is super moist with great seasoning and flavor, and they do a good job of cutting out any fat from the bbq pork before stuffing it into the bun. The BBQ Pork Hum Bao at Mee Sum is hands down the best Hum Bao I’ve ever had and I crave it every time I’m in Seattle. They have a baked version and a steamed version and I prefer the baked version. I also love their Curry Beef Hum Bao. Open daily 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
