After a long day on my feet during career recruiting events at Cornell, I needed a comforting meal and a cold beer. I asked a friend who went there what the go-to spot would be to meet those criteria and without hesitation he suggested Ithaca Ale House. I heeded his advice, stopped in this divey spot in the heart of charming downtown Ithaca, and sidled up to the bar. I ordered the burger of the week, which was inspired by the city’s upcoming Apple Fest. This is one of the most distinctive burgers I’ve eaten and is bigtime for sure. On top of a grilled patty of ground sirloin sit house smoked brie cheese, bacon, arugula, and the star of the show - fried apple slices. The burger itself was cooked perfectly for my liking, a juicy pink throughout, and the toppings worked in harmony. The apples specifically were a perfect touch, with a not-overwhelming sweetness and slight crunch on the outside. All told, Ithaca Ale House is the ideal low key bar with superb food and a wide range of beers as well.
