When I lived in DC, I was known to make the six hour round trip to Philly just to grab a few cheesesteaks. They are one of my favorite foods (what's not to like) and I've developed an ideal of what a cheesesteak should be. The cheesesteak at Fred's in Atlanta is pretty darn close to the ideal cheesesteak. The steak and onions are chopped up into small pieces and have great flavor and texture - sweet onions with a slight bite and tender meat with a few crispy bits. The thing that puts this sandwich over the top is the perfect coating of melted american cheese on the meat and onions. It covers everything in just the right gooey proportion and brings the entire sandwich together. The cheesesteak at Fred's is a must-get and borderline Franchise in my book. My wife and I also got the Italian grinder and garlic fries, both of which we would gladly order again. Fred's sits in the very cool Krog Street Market on the south side of Atlanta's eclectic Inman Park neighborhood. A lot of these mixed use developments with hip food halls are popping up across the country and Krog Street Market is one of the most interesting I've been to. They had a lot of other cool stalls that I look forward to trying on future trips to ATL.
