10/23/18 Came across this very interesting menu item - Salt Roasted Beet Burger. For vegan entrees, I’ve had black bean burgers before. As for a beet burger, I didn’t even know these existed. Being adventurous, I went with it and made the best choice I could of from the entire menu. Mustard, pea shoots, black garlic grilled scallion aioli, chèvre, pickled vegetables all on a potato bun. I don’t even know what half the ingredients actually are, but this thing was freaking delicious. Not only that, but it looks pretty too with the natural colors. The sauces on here were ridiculous. My mind was sort of blown. This was a superb burger and I kept thinking to myself while eating it, that I just might like it better than a regular beef patty burger. Yup, I said it and it is in writing. The potato bun was everything. From here on out, if there’s an option for a potato bun on any future burger or sandwich - it’s a must. The beet patty was very thick and I was trying to figure out how they mashed the beets into a crab cake like appearance. Simple: they purée lentils, sunflower seeds, and the beets of course and then bake it first and fry it after. Add in some special spices along with the other listed ingridients and wallah - Salt Roasted Beet Burger. Takes about 20 minutes to prepare. Have your napkin ready, the purple juices from the beets will be spilling all over. Vet move: Ask for another potato bun and use it to sponge up the overflowing juices from the burger. Also, a must order at Fern - Sweet Thai Chili Cauliflower. Their carrot cake is pretty solid too. All their food contains locally sourced ingredients. Never would of imagined vegan food to be this good. Glad I broadened my horizons. I’m a big fan of Fern.
