10/30/18 Sashimi Tuna Poke at Sushi Kashiba in Seattle, WA. Poke is all the rage now, as many sushi joints serve it and numerous dedicated poke bowl restaurants are popping up all over the country. As a raw fish lover, I love eating different types of poke and have had countless renditions all over the country. Sushi Kashiba’s version, however, is the best I’ve ever had, and stands head and shoulders above the rest. A generous portion of ultra fresh, sashimi grade tuna is served with flying fish roe, scallions, and seaweed in a house poke sauce. A citrus soy, wasabi mayo, and white onions are among the other ingredients that make this dish outstanding. I loved the medley of textures and flavors - the sweet citrus from the soy, the unique “bite” that only wasabi can provide, and the slight crunch of the onions, which, according to our sushi chef, is run through water for an extended time to remove the bitterness. An amazing dish that’s not to be missed if you’re in the Seattle area! Sushi Kashiba is owned and operated by renowned chef Shiro Kashiba, formerly of Shiro’s in Seattle. Open dinner only. Great cuts of fish and excellent service. We sat at the sushi bar and got the omakase, which was terrific!
