Not your typical “Steak and Eggs” dish, this Laos remix of the well known original will have you coming back for more. Snackboxe Bistro is a Laotian street food theme spot located just north of Atlanta, GA. They are known for their casual street foods that stick to simplicity and an abundance of flavor. First off, this Steak & Eggs dish has no eggs as the name may indicate but is rather replaced by two patties of fried sticky rice called “khao chee” which serve as vehicles for the juicy sirloin steak and tangy/spicy dipping sauce. The sticky rice patties provide the crispy and chewy textural complexity needed to balance the steak and chili sauce. While the steak is ordinary in name only, the flavors provided by the marinade of soy, fish sauce, garlic and other spices make this a meat worthy of some major steakhouses and should only be ordered medium rare to gain it’s true taste. It is perfectly seared with a nice sweet char and moist tender chew. The chili dipping sauce, called “nam tok” in Laos is spicy but has that tang that makes it addictive. It’s a mix of fish sauce, freshly squeezed lime juice, chili flakes, cilantro and ground toasted rice. The steak, sticky rice and chili sauce pair beautifully together for the best Steak & Eggs I’ve had in a long time....
