Charcoal Grilled Banana Prawns at Siam Tea Room in Bangkok, Thailand. These Charcoal Grilled Banana Prawns were part of a great meal I had during a recent trip to Thailand. Banana prawns are caught in tropical and sub-tropical waters, so they’re especially popular in Asia and Australia. Shaped like a banana, they have a sweetness to them that sets them apart from your typical prawns found in the States. Served with a small bowl of yellow crab curry, this dish was delicious, and I particularly loved the slight smokey flavor from the charcoal. With a thin shell, the whole prawn can be eaten shell-on along with the tail (which is what I did), and the sweetness of the prawns paired well with the spiciness of the curry. Located in the Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park Hotel, Siam Tea Room has a terrific menu, serving authentic Thai food with unique twists. Open breakfast, lunch, and dinner, servers are knowledgeable and friendly. I also loved their Yum Woon Sen (Glass Noodle Salad) and their Pomelo and Green Mango Salad with Fried Fish.
