The long held debate... pineapple on a pizza?? Answer, Yes Please. With the Johnny Tsunami at Renzo Pizzeria and Wine in Charleston, SC all doubts about putting pineapple on a pizza are put to rest. This decadent dish conjured up by the chefs at Renzo is truly one of a kind. With most pineapple pizzas being a sweet and watery distraction due to the often lower quality pineapple, this pizza bucks the trend by placing the spicy tomato base along with pickled peppers as the stars, allowing the fresh pineapple to act as a compliment rather then the leading role. Don’t say I didn’t warn you that this pizza definitely has a spicy kick worth a few courtesy coughs after a bite or two. The slices of pancetta gives this pizza the necessary fat to mellow out the spiciness but as with all the pizzas here at Renzo, the dough is really what it’s all about. The dough is the perfect balance of the Three C’s...Crispy, Chewy and Char-yyy. It’s char bubbles are unmatched with any I’ve seen and tasted and the thin chewy foundation makes you rethink your life goals. This pizza and any pizza made at a Renzo are a must.
