06/26/20 Holy cannoli. Have you ever had a cannoli pie? This was my first time ever, I didn’t even know this was a thing. Sal’s is known for their specialty pizzas and this one isn’t even listed on their standard menu. Secret menu item I suppose. Made using their regular pizza crust, crumbled up cannoli shells, cannoli cream, powdered sugar, and mini chocolate chips are the toppings. The toppings are laid out after the dough has been heated, so it does come out fairly warm. I wish the crust would of been softer to really set this off. Sal’s crust tends to be on the harder/dryer side and it was pretty tough biting into to say the least. Your jawbones really had to chomp and tear through this. The dough, breading, and crust is everything to me in a pizza and it’s the main component that gets the chunk of percentage in my total overall pizza score. This pie was crunchy and the crushed cannoli bits were like cinnamon cereal pieces. The cream was frosty and my favorite part. A handful more of chocolate chips would better satisfaction. What if they used white chocolate chips? That may be a nice blend of sweetness to go with the icing. I’ll rate this a 6.4/10. The crust was just too stiff and hard to chew through and the final ticket price was a whopping $28.09, priced higher than any pizza they offer. To be fair, this isn’t on their menu, so I cannot say it’s the highest priced menu item, but for a dessert to be the most expensive item offered is preposterous. If you’re a pizza sommelier, a cannoli crazy, or looking to splurge and combo something unique with your pepperoni pizza for the weekend and have the extra cash to blow (insert DiCaprio’s Wolf of Wall Street throwing money gif here) this makes a good dessert pizza.
