The first time I’ve ever tried a cannoli was in North Carolina last summer. At first sight I was thinking, “what is this mini rolled up taquito with icing oozing out of it.” Brief background - cannoli is an Italian pastry that originated on the island of Sicily. Deep fried pastry dough, rolled up into a mini tube, and filled with slightly sweet icing filling that’s usually made of ricotta cheese. Then add in some chocolate chips. Giacomo’s version is not mini though. These are a real monstrosity. A must try post grandma’s pie. What would make these better would be using actual micro chocolate chips instead of sprinkles. We all know sprinkles are strictly for looks and don’t ever bring the topping taste we desire on our birthday cake and ice cream.
