scouting report Phil
08/29/20 I love me some good Baklava. As soon as I entered The Mad Greek, the woman at the counter asked if I had a to-go order. I told the woman “No, I’m here to get some Baklava”, and she came off puzzled. I repeated, “I’d like to get some Baklava” and again, she was still in the fog and then proceeded to get mad. And now it’s clear to me why this place is called “The Mad Greek of Charlotte”. Not knowing how much clearer I could make it by asking for some Baklava, I quickly scanned the surroundings. Boom, out of the corner of my eye I caught the mini bakery display case to the right hand side. I walked over and pointed at the Baklava gesturing that this is what I came for. Lightbulbs went off. “Ahh, Baklava!”, she exclaimed. Yes...ma’am. Not trying to feed off the bad energy, I mentioned to her that word on the street is it’s really good here. She confidently stated, “The best in town”. Oh, she was speaking factual all right, because this may be best the Baklava I’ve come across. The layers on top of layers looked like a Geology 101 textbook with the rock formation diagrams. I could taste blasts of cinnamon in a super moistened up pastry. The bottom part is the absolute best so be sure to save it for last and soak up all the honey syrup and don’t let it go to waste. This was a very high quality made Baklava. Homemade on site daily. Yes, they’re lacking in the customer service department and come off as rude (or just naturally MAD), but the Baklava is flame and there’s no denying that. This goes on the list as one of those restaurants where the food is so good, nothing else matters and cannot diminish the taste so it’ll keep me coming back. Hop over to Mad Greek for some 5 star Baklava.
