Fresh Oysters at Lamaii Thai In Las Vegas, Nevada. As an oyster lover, I’ve had my share of different oysters over the years - east coast, west coast, big, small, sweet, briny, salty, buttery, creamy, fruity, etc. The oysters at Lamaii, however, were unlike any I’ve ever tried. No, this isn’t your typical oyster accompanied by vinegar, mignonette, and cocktail sauce. The oysters themselves are Kumiai oysters (originating off the Baja coast), medium-sized, a bit briny and on the firm side, but that in itself isn’t what sets it apart. Drizzled in a Thai chili lime sauce, the oysters are topped with fried shallots, which give it a slight crunch. The inherent oils in the fried shallots, combined with the Thai chili lime sauce, give it a really unique, partly spicy / partly sweet taste that is not only refreshing, but will leave you wanting to run it back (i.e. order another round, which we promptly did). Lamaii is a contemporary Thai eatery serving traditional and non-traditional Thai dishes with a modern twist. Located just 10 minutes off the strip, Lamaii is run by friendly and knowledgeable natives of Thailand. Open for both lunch and dinner as well as late night.
