Muang Bua Luang at The Local in Bangkok, Thailand. You can’t find this dish (whose name translates to sacred lotus) in the States, so I always look for it when I’m in Thailand. Roasted coconut, chopped lime, dried shrimp, shallots, and chili are delicately placed in an edible lotus leaf. The roasted coconut comes in two forms - dry flakes as well as wet flakes mixed inside a delicious brown paste. The mix of ingredients pop inside your mouth with an amazing blend of sweet, sour, and tangy flavors. Reasonably priced, The Local is frequented by residents and visitors alike and is located in a beautifully renovated house in the Sukhumvit area of downtown Bangkok. I also loved their papaya salad and grilled pork loin. Open for both lunch and dinner.
