scouting report R. Cho
03/25/25 Negi Toro Nigiri at Sushi on Oracle in Tucson, AZ. Well, I must admit that I’m a sushi snob, as I’m extremely picky about my sushi. To each his own, but you won’t see me order “sushi” rolls with cream cheese, fake crab or anything else along those lines. Yuck! I don’t even go to sushi joints that don’t carry toro (fatty tuna), and I typically sit at the sushi bar and order nigiri straight from the sushi chef. I was pretty skeptical of getting high quality sushi in Tucson, but damn, I hit the jackpot with this one. My daughter and I sat at the sushi bar at Sushi on Oracle for 90 minutes and had a terrific meal. Then we ran the whole thing back the very next day! Negi Toro is a dish made of fatty tuna (toro) and green onions (negi) served over rice. Sushi on Oracle’s version was outstanding, as the toro was super fresh and the toro to rice ratio was solid. Each of the other many pieces we devoured were excellent. In particular, the hamachi, amberjack, halibut, and wagyu beef nigiri were all exceptional! Generous cuts and very reasonably priced. Chef Jackie at the sushi bar was amazing and super friendly. Sushi on Oracle is a small, family owned restaurant that has been around since 1997. I won’t be visiting Tucson without hitting this place multiple times each visit!!
