Guedry’s Gumbo at The Parish in Tucson, AZ. I love a good gumbo, but rarely find one that I get really excited about, as many are just run of the mill - either too thick, too thin, or not enough flavor or ingredients. The Parish’s version was excellent. The roux was just right - while thicker than a brothy soup, it wasn’t so thick that it made the dish too heavy. Plenty of chicken, andouille sausage, and rice accompanied the dish. Dark brown in color with a nice kick to it from various spices, Guedry’s Gumbo is a recipe that had been handed down over three generations. What made it especially unique was the option to add shrimp or crawfish (or both) to the gumbo - $6 to add one or the other, or for just $1 more, you can add both. I chose to add both, giving the gumbo a distinctive blend of flavors and textures not commonly found in gumbos I’ve tried in the past. The Parish serves southern style cuisine in a fun and casual environment with terrific, friendly service. I also loved their Parish Burger and Brussels sprouts. When in Tucson, don’t miss heading to The Parish!!
