Believe it or not, I'm not a big fan of fried chicken. This dish is the exception. Any time I'm even remotely close to the Asheville vicinity, I reroute the GPS to HomeGrown, where they abide by the slogan, "slow food right quick" and I order some variation of their Buttermilk Fried Chicken. They serve it in a sandwich (pictured) or as a platter, covered in homemade mushroom gravy - without the bun - with one or two sides. The sides are all great (the greens are pictured), but the bird is the true star of the show. What makes this chicken so amazing is hard to describe, because it's not your typical greasy, fried food that makes you feel sick five minutes after eating. With this, it's quite the opposite - I feel like I add a day to my life every time I eat this chicken. Now go add this to your food bucket list!
