07/29/17 Tea Leaf Salad at Burma Superstar in San Francisco, CA. One of my favorite spots in the country, Burma Superstar is a highly acclaimed restaurant that has a cult-like following among Bay Area locals and tourists alike. So much so that you'll see patrons line up to get in line prior to its opening at both lunch and dinner to avoid the long wait. Don't miss the Tea Leaf Salad, which has been featured on The Food Network and won numerous national food awards. It's comprised of a medley of ingredients - fermented tea leaves (imported from Burma), romaine lettuce, garlic chips, split peas, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, peanuts, tomatoes, jalapeƱos, dried shrimp, lemon, and fish sauce. Mixed together, the result is a light and savory salad bursting with flavors and textures that will leave you coming back for more. The wild success of this place has spawned a plethora of copy cat Burmese restaurants in the Bay Area, but Burma Superstar and its sister restaurant Burma Love are by far the best (Burmese is my ethnicity so you'll have to trust me on this). A major part of their success is that they take great care in the ingredients they use as well as their customer service. I also love their mohinga (fish chowder soup), rainbow salad, chicken curry, pork curry, pumpkin shrimp, and chili lamb. Don't miss it if you're in the Bay Area!
