08/01/17 BBQ Pork Shoulder Sandwich at Kindred in Davidson, NC. I'm not a huge sandwich guy because I don't eat a lot of bread, but this BBQ Pork Shoulder Sandwich falls into my short list of exceptions where I will gladly scarf down the bread. The pork shoulder is spit fired and diced into small pieces, making it easier to taste the flavors of both the pork and the sauce. The pork is nice and tender and basted in a delicious Greek yogurt BBQ sauce that covers the pork enough to taste the flavors of the sauce but doesn't drench the sandwich so much that you can't taste the texture and slight char of the pork. The soft bun is heated a tad (see the marks on top of the bun), which is a nice touch. Kindred is my favorite restaurant in the Charlotte area and one of my favorites in the country. It was in Bon Appetit magazine's Top 10 new restaurants in America for 2015. The lunch and dinner menus are different, but both boast outstanding dishes. For lunch, the pork shoulder sandwich, buttermilk fried chicken salad (my favorite) and ham tartine are outstanding. For dinner, I love all their homemade pastas, especially their NC shrimp squid ink pasta. And don't miss their terrific crispy oysters, which are available at both lunch and dinner. Friendly and knowledgeable service. This place is BIGTIME!!
