I'm a big fan of the growing fad of grilled cheese and mac n cheese places, so when I moved to Wake Forest and discovered they have a local joint that is all about just that, I had to check it out. Their menu is very large, considering they cater to a specific niche, so decision making was pretty tough. In the end, I went with something somewhat basic paired with something very unique. The spicy fried chicken sandwich was exactly what I had hoped for; perfectly crispy fried chicken with cheese (assuming American, but they didn't say), lettuce, and tomato, on Texas toast. You can get it regular or spicy, but since I'm from Louisiana, I always take the spicy option, and it was decently spicy. Not enough to make your mouth burn, but enough to add a good kick to the flavor of the chicken. I would recommend getting it without the tomato, as that took away from the crispiness of the bread, but it added a good balance to the savory flavors, so I was conflicted. It came with a side and I chose the chocolate bacon mac (mac n cheese with chocolate chips melted throughout and pieces of perfectly crisp bacon) purely out of curiosity; I wouldn't say I was disappointed. It was a great compliment to the (very) savory sandwich that I had just finished. I will say my stomach had no idea what was going on or how to process the flavors, but I won't say that I didn't enjoy it. It was much sweeter than I had expected and acted as a dessert more than a side. The staff was extremely helpful in my decision making and from the looks of the menu, I don't think you can go wrong here. They don't have a lunch menu, which is fine because they're a very affordable restaurant ($18 for my wife and I to eat). Everything is homemade and quintessentially American in this great local joint with an awesome atmosphere. Tons of unique options puts this place on my weekly lunch list. I can't not try everything here.
