About two weeks after getting home from Italy, my wife and I had an intense craving for some good Italian food, so we decided to scope out our local options at our new home. We managed to find a good local pizzeria, but what followed the pizza stole the show. They call it a zeppenoli, which is a zeppole (basically an Italian beignet; fried dough with powdered sugar) combined with a cannoli. It's a zeppole sandwich with cannoli cream (cream with chocolate chips often mixed in) in the middle; it's as beautiful as it sounds. The dough was fried to a perfect crispy level (you could practically taste the freshness) and they put juuuuuust the right amount of cream in it so that it wasn't falling everywhere. It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, but it was definitely sweet. I can't imagine going here and not ordering one of these after every meal from now on. If you're looking for a new twist on two classic Italian desserts, then you can't come to this town and not stop by Pizza Amore.
