Whether it qualifies as "American" food is up for debate. What is not up for debate: 808 Grinds is the best Hawaiian spot in Portland. Today I went with the mini combo of 808 Fried Chicken, a top-5 fried chicken in Portland, as well as the shoyu chicken.
All of that meat, plus rice and Hawaiian Mac salad for less than 10 bucks is a winner.
Not pictured: their wide variety of house made sauces, which includes an incredible habanero teriyaki sauce, spicy mayo and a sweet wasabi. The habanero teriyaki sauce is the sixth man of the meal, pairing the sweet and savory goodness of traditional teriyaki with the slow burning habanero that will stay with you long after you've finished, but never overpowers.
