Day Boat Scallops at Pearl's Oyster Bar in Philadelphia, PA. I loved this scallop dish at Pearl's Oyster Bar in Reading Terminal, one of my go to destinations every time I'm in Philly. Chef Jason Ledee was kind enough to enlighten me on some of the particulars of this unique and tasty dish. The scallops are flown in from the Japanese island of Hokkaido. They are hard seared (giving it that nice brown sear mark) and served on top of organic quinoa that is braised with Jersey sweet corn, Jersey heirloom sweet tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon, micro cilantro, and a key lime beurre blanc sauce. The plump scallops were fresh as can be, and I loved the different textures in this dish with the mix of corn, tomatoes, bacon, and cilantro with the quinoa. The dish was filling but at the same time not too heavy. The presentation was beautiful, as they laid the scallops on top of the quinoa and garnished the plate with a Modena (a city in Italy) balsamic reduction. Don't miss Pearl's in the Reading Terminal next time you're in Philly. They have a nice corner space with tables as well as bar stools, service is very friendly, and the food is terrific!
