Driving to the wrong airport and missing my flight (Houston Hobby instead of Bush Intercontinental) finally provided me the chance to try Thai Jasmine, which has been on my list for a while. This place is in a random strip center in SE Houston and has very good online reviews. I'm always skeptical of high ratings outside of central Houston, but this place took my big city food snobbishness and stuck it up my ass. And put some tasty food in my mouth too. I got the spicy beef salad which was great. Nice combo of beef, red chili, and mint. It doesn't stack up to Burma Superstar's tea leaf salad, but what does? I remember my first BS tea leaf salad like it was yesterday. Same thing for my second BS tea leaf salad, after I went back the next day for another. Completely shattered the upper limit I had placed on the salad food group. Even the presentation was amazing. That was like prime Pippen--simple, amazing, but still somehow overshadowed by the other dishes on the menu. The Thai Jasmine salad was Rotation level. More like college Pippen--toiling in obscurity in one of the most random parts of the country. I should also point out that I wasn't planning on this meal, and I wasn't hungry. In fact I was stuffed. Had a big workout and cooked myself a full pound of redfish only a couple hours earlier. So bonus points for satisfaction on a full stomach. Context is everything in scouting. If you're a loyal Southwest customer and you fly into Hobby, check this place out!
