As you may know if you're reading this: I absolutely love tacos. They're a nifty creation that allow you to make a unique dish that isn't overwhelming. They're perfect. So, I decided to try this place out. It's a small local chain (5 locations all around the triangle) that serves a few different Mexican dishes, but specializes in tacos. It's a perfect college-town restaurant as the menu is simple and cheap. But don't underestimate it; this place is awesome. The chicken taco was good, but when paired with their guacatillo sauce it really stood out. The steak taco was good, but the toppings kind of took away from the great flavor of the steak which is an easy fix. This is where the chile de arbol sauce came in; it's a sort of bbq salsa. It was spicy, but with a smoky-sweet BBQ flavor that went very well with the steak. The main event, if you will, of this course was definitely the carnitas taco. Idk if it's because the area is obsessed with BBQ, but I've had the best pork tacos I've ever had in my life during my short time here in Wake Forest. This was possibly only second to the pork taco I've had at nanataco, and it's the part of this meal that really made it an All-Star dish. The pork was perfect. It was juicy and flavorful on its own and obviously, with a little lime juice added, made for a spectacular taco. The flavors of cilantro, onion, lime, and the pork itself made this taco a must-try in my book. Chubby's was well worth a trip, and for less than $10 per person, there's no way I won't be back here soon.
