08/28/17 The only bite I enjoy more than a good taco is a bite of crispy fried chicken doused in honey with a little bit of waffle underneath. So Sunday after church I decided to try one of the local chicken and waffle places and was far from disappointed. Beasley's is a hip little place in downtown Raleigh that is perpetually packed with people, and for a very good reason. They offer a variety of chicken dishes, but their specialty is their fried chicken and waffle dish with a side of honey. If you have never had this dish before because you're skeptical or whatever, just take the chance. The chicken was absolutely perfectly fried. It was crispy and juicy and the waffle beneath it was soft, which was a good thing in this case (I prefer my waffles soft when they're paired with chicken). It came with a little bit of honey to pour on top. The mixture of sweet and salty was perfect. It's what makes chicken and waffles such an amazing dish, and Beasley's has all but perfected it. Not too savory, not too sweet, and with the honey, it was just right. It also helps that the chicken was especially meaty, which left me with a little bit left over afterwards to just eat by itself and really appreciate just how good the chicken is here. I can't recommend this place enough. The atmosphere is fun and hip, just like your typical modern-day downtown bar and restaurant, and this chicken and waffles dish definitely cracked my top 5.
