Local Loaf is a key component of 7th Street Public Market in Uptown Charlotte - everything here at this bakery/eatery is consistently fresh and homemade - from the bread, to the soups, salads and pastries. To many, they are known for their breakfast dish called "Chicken & the Egg" (definitely a must-try), but to me, it's all about the chili. There aren't many things better than a bowl of this stuff on a winter day in the Queen City. There's no catch with this bigtime bite - no off-the-wall ingredients, or anything like that - just straight and to the point. The chef successfully completes a delicate balancing act between sweet and heat and the consistency isn't too thick and chunky or too soupy. Although it may be tempting to turn down the bread for dipping, but I urge you not to - that stuff is coming freshly-baked out of the oven every few minutes. Don't miss this place on your next trip to the market.
