scouting report A. Vinzant
10/03/17 Cold brew coffee is a staple in just about any southern US state. There are fewer things more delightful to a coffee drinker than something that allows you to enjoy coffee on a hot day. It's a growing trend in the coffee community which has caused most coffee roasters to try to put their own spin on it. One of these shops is my local coffee roaster, currently known as Back Alley. They decided to mix cold brew with a little bit of lemonade. Now, cold brew is essentially coffee concentrate. You allow coffee to steep for a period of time, usually between 12 and 24hrs, and at many shops, including Back Alley, they serve it via nitro tap just as you would serve a beer. This produces a very smooth and creamy cold coffee drink with a head, just like a beer. They do this, and then pour just a little bit of lemonade and the result is a very refreshing hot-weather drink. It combines two refreshing beverages with a great and unexpected balance. It's sweet, smooth, sour, and just slightly bitter. I can't properly describe the taste experience, but just know that it is certainly a must try and even though I am a coffee snob, it is my go to drink here.
