Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is located in downtown D.C. near the Metro Center Station. It’s the perfect breakfast spot for a quick and easy bite. On this occasion, I stopped in for my first time and was immediately attracted to the Fried Chicken Honey breakfast sandwich. The sandwich is $5.75 before add-ons, and you can get it either on a potato roll, cheddar biscuit, regular glazed doughnut or old bay doughnut. I went with my gut and got it with the glazed doughnut. The sandwich is made with their house fried chicken breast, drizzled with honey glaze and hot sauce. I added on sharp cheddar cheese and bacon because those are my two favorite food groups, along with a poached egg because a breakfast would not be complete without eggs.... the first bite into the sandwich was a rush of confusing, yet exciting flavors. You instantly get punched by the glazed sugary doughnut buns, followed by the sweet honey and tangy hot sauce drizzles. Then the saltiness from the cheese and bacon pulls you back in to enjoy the crunchy, juicy, well-seasoned fried chicken. The poached egg was definitely a great addition and highly recommended because the runny egg yolk and soft egg whites balances and binds the sweet and salty flavors. Before you know it, the sandwich is gone and you have a giant pile of napkins in front of you... This sandwich cost me $9 after add-ons and each bite was worth every penny. Until the next BTB ✌🏽
