Portlanders are famous -- infamous? -- for the long time they're willing to wait for brunch. Few restaurants draw longer lines than Screen Door, which offers improbably good Southern cuisine in the Pacific Northwest. The fried chicken and waffle is the centerpiece of Screen Door's star-studded menu. The weekend version features three good-sized chicken breasts (no bones here) cooked moist with flavorful breading. (During weekdays, you can choose from one to three pieces.) It's the best chicken I've ever had. Not to be outdone, the sweet potato waffle would be a standout on its own almost anywhere else. Screen Door is worth the wait, though you can minimize it by going for weekday breakfast/lunch.
