The British have an obsession with Indian cuisine which is as ubiquitous across the pond as Mexican cuisine in the United States. The Gateway to India, located in central Birmingham off the main thoroughfare of Broad Street, is one of the original pioneers of the Indian street food concept having been in business since 1972. The Dabha Rogan Josh I ordered consists of diced lamb in a curry of onion, tomato, masala, and coriander. It does not disappoint in its tangy flavor although I did find the spice level on the mild side to cater to the British palate. The service was excellent and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. I found the restaurant ambiance and even the menu itself (http://www.thegatewaytoindia.co.uk/GTI-Menu-2017.pdf) to be a refreshing change from ordinary Indian restaurants which are a dime a dozen in the UK. If you find yourself craving good Indian street food while in Birmingham, The Gateway to India is the place to go.
