KoKyu Na'Mean is a local shop that's super hip and gaining a ton of popularity in the Durham area. It's still a very small shop and they offer different takes on the traditional Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich. I had heard great things so I decided to try it out. I ordered the Baht Mi by recommendation of the cashier. It's a sandwich with BBQ ShortRib, Honey Peanut Sauce, Chilies, Cucumber, Mint, Cilantro, Pickled Veg, KoKyu Chili Sauce, Crushed Peanuts. It's got a ton going on. Which, if you've ever had a banh mi, you're familiar with. It's like a feast in a sandwich. All of these flavors come together like a symphony. The sweet shortrib, peanut sauce, and peanuts are met with the spicy chilies and chili sauce with cilantro, but it's all refreshed by the mint and cucumber. It was a very refreshing sandwich, which is odd to say. Everything was wonderful and I honestly don't think I've ever had a sandwich that compares to it. It was the perfect mix of sweet and spicy with a refreshing finish, and an amazing side of curry potato salad. It was a little expensive for a sandwich, but with everything on it, it was absolutely worth it. KoKyu Na'Mean is an awesome little shop that delivers some spectacular bigtime bites.
