Whenever I'm in Evanston for a Northwestern football game like I was this past weekend, I hit up Bat 17 and get the Takin' Care of Business. A gargantuan sandwich stacked high with sliced skirt steak covered in BBQ sauce, fried onion strings, white cheddar cheese, and chipotle mayo, and sitting on griddled sourdough bread made by a local bakery, the TCOB is probably the best sandwich I have ever eaten. Bat 17 is located in downtown Evanston, and while it is just a couple blocks from Northwestern’s campus, Bat is definitely more than your typical college town bar/restaurant. Definitely worth a quick trip north from Downtown Chicago – if you catch a Purple Line Express train, you can get to the restaurant from the Loop in 30 minutes or so.
