Before leaving Charlotte, my wife and I had to try another fun spot and we managed to find Sabor. The menu was overloaded with appealing dishes but the carne asada fries caught my eye, and subsequently my stomach. It's fries topped with pico de gallo, queso, guacamole, cojita cheese, and of course, carne asada. Well...I was blown away. The fries were spiced very well and everything just meshed like a 2000s San Antonio Spurs passing play. The carne asada was great, I only had maybe two bites that were fatty and the rest was juicy and succulent. Best of all, the meat soaked up the juices of everything else in the dish which made it great to just chew on and enjoy the flavors of the dish. The guacamole was great and was a good balancing agent for the spiciness of the fries and the savory flavors of pretty much everything else. The pico was very flavorful and just tasted fresh. The queso, of course, added a really good layer to the dish. It's hard to get me to complain about cheese on anything. But what the dish really needed was some acidity...which is never lacking at a good Latin restaurant. The lime, which was generously squeezed over the dish, really perfected the dish. All of these things on a bed of fries was fantastic. It's a fun dish at a very fun restaurant and surprisingly one of the best Latin dishes I've ever had. Honestly, the ingredients were just good quality, the dish was a traditional dish but the addition of fries just gave it that little something extra that made it stand out and really made it a bigtime bite. I will definitely be back to visit Charlotte, and I'm glad to know I have a few places I can always trust.
