10/23/17 Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack in Asheville, NC is always my first food stop when in town. This place has incredible food from the chicken and fish to the sides, sauces and desserts. But the main reason to go to Rocky’s is because of the Hot Chicken. I usually go with the leg and thigh combo (extra thigh for $3 bc I was forced share with someone this time) with 2 sides for a total of $13. The chicken exterior is seasoned after cooking with their house made spices and the level of heat depends on your preference. Heat levels range from Mt. Saint H*ck-No to honey medium down to plain. My recommendation is the mild to start with and work your way up on every visit. The chicken is brined in buttermilk before being pressure cooked which is the reason it remains plump and juicy throughout with a crispy, crunchy skin exterior. You can’t go wrong with any of their side dishes, but my favorite has always been the collard greens. The greens are cooked with pork and has a slight sweetness that is especially enjoyable to help assist with putting out the heat from the chicken. Be sure to wear dark clothing like the black BTB shirt because it can get a little messy when reaching to steal your friends’ dishes or just eating your own chicken and trying not to touch your eyes or nose in fear of the fire. Until the next BTB ✌🏽
