The Junction is located in the River Arts District in Asheville, NC along the French Broad River. It’s a small, cozy place with inventive foods and a revolving menu. For our first visit here we went with several small dishes for the table to share but the one that grabbed everyone’s attention was the Berkshire Pork Chop served with spaetzle, smoked mushroom, english peas, corn nuts and drizzled with a sundried tomato gastrique. Our group’s first inclination was to dive into the spaetzle mixture where we were greeted with a rich creamy texture from the egg noodles followed by soft sweet bites from the peas and mushroom. The surprise came from the corn nuts which added a very nice crunch and textural difference. Overall the spaetzle was nicely seasoned, not too salty from the cream and cheese reduction, and provided a nice compliment to the pork chop. The pork chop itself was perfectly cooked to a medium-medium rare degree of doneness and retained a soft, juicy bite throughout. The gastrique drizzle provided a sweet tartness to the pork chop and was used like your favorite ketchup by everyone at the table. This dish, along with the foie gras corn dog (yes, that is correct) is a must try if it’s on the menu during your visit. BTB ✌🏽
