For this scouting report, I am deferring to my father who fancies himself a connaisseur of French Onion soup. He has eaten it all over the world, including other restaurants in France but none has come close to the best he had eaten in Washington, D.C. in 1983. His only request while he was in Paris was for me to take him to the restaurant where they serve the best.
La Jacobine is a small restaurant in the 6th Arrondissement. Upon first bite, his eyes lit up “This is really exquisite”.... mission accomplished. I had done it.
The soup is served piping hot. A perfect slice of french bread submerged in a unique buttery beef broth and thinly sliced onions topped with grated cheese and then baked to perfection.
From a man who has eaten 100+ bowls of french onion soup to declare this one THE BEST to beat out the reigning champ of the past 34 years... I highly recommend if you’re in Paris & love french onion soup, this is the only one you need to eat.
Reservations aren’t needed at lunch unless on a weekend. Reservations for dinner are a must as it is a small restaurant. Bon Appétit!
