In a taco-obsessed town like Austin, it's great to find a place that nails the simplicity and comfort of the Sunday morning barbacoa I grew up with in South Texas. This small, colorful bakery has plenty of treats but come for a plate (order a pound or so) of soft, moist, fatty beef and a stack of freshly made flour tortillas. Tortillas are an often underrated and underappreciated component of tacos, but this bakery serves up tortillas which exhibit the griddle marks, imperfect circle shape, and most importantly, buttery taste that can elevate fillings like a great sixth man elevates his teammates without much attention or fanfare. With a sprinkle of salt, diced onions, cilantro, and your choice of red or green salsas from the tiny salsa bar (I preferred the milder, more flavorful red to the hotter, peppery green), you can enjoy a taste of delicious barbacoa which would be a solid addition to your Sunday morning breakfast or taco rotation.
